Two for one!
The cinema market is extremely competitive. Operators need many innovative ideas to score with the audience. So, Thomas Wilhelm, the owner of “Neues Rex” Cinema in Munich-Laim, turned to renowned Cinema Designer, Anne Batisweiler, to keep up with the frontrunners. The former single screen cinema was to be turned into two smaller auditoriums, offering twice as many film.(LICHT 3/2017)

One of the highlights during the LICHTWOCHE Munich event series is the presentation of this newly reopened art house or repertory cinema followed by the movie matinee showing of “Icons of Light” (Lichtgestalten). This alluring cinema in Munich-Laim was completely remodeled by BATISWEILER CINEMA DESIGN (KINOPLANUNG BATISWEILER).

When Darkness Falls
Arriving at this Architect’s heritage villa in the South of Pasing, a district in Munich, my first point of contact is her friendly dog, carrying a sneaker. While scanning the home for sources of light, the dog does not let me out of its sights. The stairway is adorned by a multi-colored chandelier – an optical contrast to the two, somber and severe oil portraits showing the previous owners. (Süddeutsche Zeitung | 28.102016)
What does an interior designer do?
For many people, the profession of interior designer makes them think of colourful drapes and designer furniture – which is far removed from what this job actually entails. The magazine “exklusive häuser” (Exclusive Homes) asked Munich interior designer, Anne Batisweiler, about her day-to-day work and about the differences between the professions of interior designer, architect and interior decorator.

With the designs of more than 30 cinemas, the Batisweiler architectural office has been able to make a name for itself beyond the national borders. Among the office´s most recent projects is the conversion of the Gloria Palast in Munich.
