The lighting of the CINEPLEX Cinemas in Memmingen

In addition to the lobby and facade of the CINEPLEX project in Memmingen, the entire lighting concept was designed and realized – using renowned lighting manufacturers such as Oktalite, Moltoluce or the LED-specialist Hansen-Neon.

Interior designer Anne Batisweiler’s scope of work is broad and multi-faceted. It includes offices, restaurants, stores, clinics, exhibition spaces and private homes. Above all, however, she has made an illustrious name for herself far beyond the borders of Germany – Batisweiler’s company is one of the leading architectural firms for the redevelopment and conversion of cinemas – including the technology. These cinemas include the Royal-Kino, the Atlantis, the Gabriel-Lichtspiele, Constantin Film or Paramount Pictures, the Cinedom in Ulm, the Ambo in Stuttgart, the Cinedom in Cologne, the Deutsche Filmhaus in Wiesbaden and the Cineplex in Memmingen. The Gloria Palast and the Museum Lichtspiele, both located in Munich, are among the most recent projects.
The architect had specified the original shell of the building in the 2-meter matrix of industrial architecture. Helga and Werner Rusch, the clients, wanted to give this basic functional structure a more pleasant and light ambiance using a design to create a new highlight and focal point for enthusiastic movie buffs. In addition to robust and easily maintained materials, excellent acoustics using sound-absorbing areas on ceilings and walls, this concept is predominantly supported by an impressive colour and lighting design, with a strong exterior and distance impact. The contour lighting of the upper floor that clearly overhangs the building captures the over and underlining of the CINEPLEX logo and its colouring, making the use of the building as a CINEPLEX cinema complex very obvious from a greater distance.
The striking red contour lighting was provided by HANSEN-NEON, a company that started out with the development and manufacture of electronic ballast for neon tubes and has been consistently relying on LED technology for many years now. An LED facade profile consisting of two plastic parts was utilized for the contour lighting of the upper floor. The lower plastic profile contains all of the electronics with LED hose, converter and wiring, the upper profile allows for a continuous line of light without any shadows.

15_03_05_Beitragsbil_Licht_13When you enter the lobby, the svelte and elegant ROMANO pendulum lighting fixtures by MOLTOLUCE illuminating the extra-long counter are noticeable right away – a delicate line of light, placing clear decorative accents in the lobby.

HANSEN-NEON offers the 51 mm wide and 53 mm high facade profile in three different lengths (2000, 1000, 500 mm, custom lengths possible), optionally equipped with LEDs in white, blue, red, green, yellow and orange. The colours of the upper plastic profile are identical with each other (same night / day effect, or coloured at night / white during the day). A white upper part and coloured LEDs create a pastel lighting effect. The pendulum light fixtures, equipped with fluted polycarbonate reflectors, have an integrated ballast technology as well as an integrated changeable reflector (except TC-T/E, WFL) and are especially suited to illuminating large spaces. The light fixtures are suspended from steel wires (pendulum length 3,000 mm, other lengths on request) and can be fastened either over a 3-phase power track adapter with corresponding power tracks or directly to the ceiling.

LUNA 420 is optionally set up for TC-T/E, HIT, HAST-TC and HAST light fixtures and is available in silver (RAL 9006) powder coated (other RAL colours available upon request). LUNA 420 is available in a variety of styles – Super Spot, Spot, Medium Flood, Flood, Wide Flood and Smooth – and can therefore be used for a great variety of lighting applications.

The ROMANO light fixture series with its honeycombed shades made of “Serpentine”, a high-quality polycarbonate lighting foil in white, amber or red creates a pleasant, warmly lit ambiance. This extremely aesthetic light fixture is available in nickel or chrome versions and with a diameter of 158 mm in three different lengths – 175, 400 and 600 mm. It is fitted with an E27 socket for a maximum of 75 Watts. The polycarbonate foil shade is extremely sturdy and easy to maintain and is therefore very well suited for use in the project space.

The associated “Romano Ponge” model, whose shades are covered with precious fabric in white or beige, are more targeted for residential use. For the auditorium numbers, the Anne Batisweiler team came up with something very special.

The ROMANO series by MOLTOLUCE is also available as wall/ceiling light fixtures and as table/floor lamps. The wall versions with their shades made of polycarbonate had the auditorium number printed on afterwards. This not only ensured a uniform appearance, but the square light fixtures, measuring 650 x 650 mm and the auditorium numbers are also easily visible from greater distances.
