The first Dolby Cinema in Germany opened on May 11, 2019 in Munich. As a premium concept, this cinema features outstanding visual and sound technology embedded in high-quality design.

When you visit the Dolby Cinema at the Mathäser Filmpalast in Munich these days, you may not even realize the architectural feat involved in integrating this design concept with the existing buildings. For experts, however, this is a clear reflection of the success of this project achieved by Cinema Designer, Anne Batisweiler.

What is the standard that Dolby associates with its premium concept – and to what degree has it been met by the Mathäser Filmpalast in Munich? Julian Stanford offered some detailed explanations at the opening.

The Friedrich Wilhem Murnau Foundation protects and manages the history of German film OF pre- and post-war Germany. This includes films like “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligary", "Metropolis", "The Blue Angel", “The three from the filling station", etc.

Based on a thorough analysis of the proposed project, the focus of the design is on functionality and cost effectiveness. In this context, extraordinary solutions always considered as well. Meeting deadlines and staying within the budget is a matter of course while at the same time fulfilling the requirement for customized and / or timeless design. Our consideration of all of the senses increases the comfort factor. (

The Professor-Sep-Ruf Building at the Goetheplatz was returned to its original use as a cinema including food service. Front and centre for this project, besides the expansion of the foyer with a cashier area, was creating an ambiance of “event driven architecture.” (and:guide MUNICH 2005, AB, teNeues Verlag GmbH + Co. Three new auditoriums were stacked on top of each other in the already existing cinema and the foyer was enlarged. The new auditoriums were themed: “Titanic” with blue waves and a spray of light, “Shadow” with the shadows of dancing trees and hobgoblins, as well as “Graffity” with constantly changing coloured fields of light.
